STRAIGHTEN YOUR SMILE AND IMPROVE YOUR ORAL HEALTH
Orthodontics is the process used by your dentist to gradually straighten your teeth over time, giving you a gorgeous smile and improving your oral health. The best time to start orthodontic treatment is around age 7, but there’s no need to fear if you’re already past that point: Orthodontics can be practiced on people of all ages, although age may have an effect on the results.
Ashfield Dental centre offers a competitive range of Sydney-based orthodontic treatment options, including traditional metal and ceramic braces, clear braces and aligners, and options ideal for children. We take your smile, your questions, and your comfort into account to figure out which option is best for your individual orthodontic requirements and budget.
Modern orthodontic treatments offer a huge range of options for straightening teeth which can suit almost anyone.
Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of orthodontic treatment. They’re made of stainless steel (sometimes with titanium elements) and are affixed to the front of the teeth using dental adhesive and metal plates. Elastic bands are used to hold the wires against the teeth, gradually pulling them into alignment.
Traditional braces are popular for a reason – they can be used to perform complex tooth movements (such as rotating teeth or closing large gaps) which other orthodontic methods don’t have the power or manoeuvrability to do. They’re also very customisable – you can choose from a wide range of colours to personalise your grin while it’s being straightened!
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are a great alternative to traditional braces for those worried about the way their mouth looks during treatment. They’re a similar colour to your natural teeth, which makes them less noticeable. However, ceramic braces are more vulnerable to staining and may become discoloured during treatment. The amount of friction created between the wire of the braces and the ceramic elements can also result in a longer treatment time.
Ceramic braces tend to be more popular with adults. They’re a little less customisable than metal braces (adding bright colours tends to ruin the subtlety), but make up for it with the comfort and cosmetic boost they offer. As an added bonus, they may also suitable for some people with metal allergies, since they minimise the amount of metal used in the treatment.
Clear aligners
Clear aligners are a great alternative to braces for people who are looking for an almost invisible option to straighten their teeth. The aligners are made of strong, clear plastic which fits over your teeth and gradually and gently moves them into position without the need for wires or brackets.
Clear aligners allow you have discrete and effective teeth straightening while allowing you to get on with your life by leading an active lifestyle and enjoying the foods you like to eat at the same time!
Ashfield Dental Centre is trained to provide quality, lasting orthodontic teeth alignment without the need for traditional braces using various clear aligner brands. Our team can prescribe a series of customised clear aligners which are worn over the course of (usually) about 12-18 months to gently guide your teeth into alignment and revolutionise your smile.
